FAQ:
How is self defence Taekwondo different to other Taekwondo ?
Self defence Taekwondo is a scientific based practical application of both hands and legs equally in order to deliver the maximum effect within the quickest time. By combining both hands and legs it is adaptable to many different scenarios. Other Taekwondo schools teach mostly leg techniques and are focused on the sport side of the art rather than the practical and realistic methods of self defence.
Self defence Taekwondo has 5 different types of sparring alone to teach students progressively how to defend themselves, other Taekwondo schools teach only 1 type ie competition sparring which does not realistically simulate real life self defence scenarios.
Will I get fit and lose weight ?
As self defence Taekwondo uses both legs and hands equally you will benefit from an all over body work out along with improved flexibility and improved body strength.
During times of competition (up to 4 competitions a year) there is a greater emphasis on fitness and naturally weight loss will be accelerated during those times.
After each class you will be using muscles you never thought existed.
Does Taekwondo conflict with other traditional sporting activities?
Taekwondo improves strength and flexibility which is known to facilitate performance in many other sports which require participants to be agile and fit.
Am I too old to start?
The benefit of being a practical scientific based martial art self defence Taekwondo movements are adaptive to each individual body shape and type. It allows the practitioner to adjust their techniques based on their own abilities. There are students and instructors world wide that continue to do Taekwondo at a mature age. The art has pre determined movements which can be performed slowly and at times even require the student to be perform them slowly.
